2024 (First Half Year): The Dacia Sandero, Volkswagen Golf, and Renault Clio were the top-selling car models in Europe.
During the first semester of 2024, the Dacia Sandero was Europe’s most popular car model. It was followed by the Volkswagen Golf, Renault Clio, and VW T-Roc. Sales of the Citroen C3 increased by 50%. The Tesla Model Y remained the most popular electric car model in Europe but slipped from the most popular car overall last year to only the eighth best-selling car model thus far in 2024.

The 25 most popular car models in Europe during the first semester of 2024 according to car sales statistics released by JATO were:
Top Ten Most Popular Car Models in Europe in 2024 (First Year)
During the first six months of 2024, the Dacia Sandero was the most popular car model in Europe. Sales of the Sandero increased by 16% or just over 20,000 cars to gain first place from the Tesla Model Y.
The VW Golf was the second most popular car model in Europe with sales up 43%, or 25,000 more cars than a year ago when the Golf was only in 9th place.
The Renault Clio moved up from 6th with sales up by over 14,000 cars.
The VW T-Roc slipped one position with sales down by 311 cars. The VW T-Roc was Europe’s top-selling SUV, depending on how SUV is being defined. The Peugeot 208 also slipped one rank position despite a small increase in sales.
Sales of the Skoda Octavia in Europe during the first half of 2024 increased by a quarter, or around 20,000 cars, for the VW-owned Czech brand to improve from 14th to 6th.
The Citroen C3 was the most improved car model thus far in Europe in 2024. Sales increased by 50% or 34,000 cars. The new C3 was very well received by the motoring press and clearly by buyers too — it shot into the top 10 from 20th last year.
The Tesla Model Y was the worst-performing top model in Europe during the first half of 2024. Tesla Model Y sales were down 26%, or around 35,000 cars, to drop from first place to 8th. The Tesla Model Y remained Europe’s best-selling battery-electric car during the first half of 2024.
The Toyota Yaris Cross (down from 7th) and Toyota Yaris (up from 11th) rounded out the top ten list of most popular car models in Europe during the first half year of 2024.
Cars dropping out of the top ten from the first half of 2023 were the Opel / Vauxhall Corsa (5th to 14th), Fiat 500 (8th to 21st), and Dacia Duster (10th to 12th).
